Cloverdale! Where the vineyards meet the redwoods. For a small community, the City of Cloverdale abounds in local services. Our schools rank among the top 5% in the state, our firefighters boast the best response times in the county, and our community-oriented policing programs work to make Cloverdale one of the safest communities in the Sonoma County. The Cloverdale Unified School District (CUSD) is comprised of four school sites. Jefferson School K-3rd grade, Washington School grades 4-8, Cloverdale High School grades 9-12, and Johanna Echols-Hansen Continuation High School. Student enrollment is 1580, which allows the district the ability to be responsive to individual student needs. The family atmosphere at each school supports student achievement and helps build socially responsible adults. Founded in 1968, the Cloverdale Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to local historical preservation and education. Healdsburg boasts a downtown square with a gazebo in the middle. The town is quaint and reassuring. Around the square are antique shops, art galleries, bookstores, boutiques, highly rated restaurants. The city spent about $2 million on downtown landscaping, underground utility lines, antique street lighting and parking.
Around the old part of town there are homes from around the run of the century and the early 1900's: Queen Anne’s, bungalows, cottages, homes built in the style of Italia, Greece, and Mediterranean. As you travel east the homes get newer and near the Russian River. At the north end of town are the newer subdivisions.
The library is fairly new, there are concerts at the gazebo in the town square, there is a Saturday Market featuring local flowers, vegetables and fruits. A new hotel was completed in Fall 2001 on the Town Square and features the Dry Creek Kitchen Restaurant with local chef Mark Purdy and part of the world famous Charlie Parker chain. This town has truly become a destination point for those visiting or moving to northern Sonoma County. In February 2005 watch for the opening of Cyrus at the new Hotel LeMars. Some say in will be the French Laundry of Sonoma County. Chamber of Commerce (707) 433-6935.
